Pasadena is the home of the California bungalow. Brothers Charles and Henry Greene designed the Gamble House here in 1908 for an heir to the Procter and Gamble fortune, fitting its teak and mahogany interior together like fine furniture. The house is open for tours, and the nearby Bungalow Heaven neighborhood preserves hundreds of more modest Craftsman homes.
